This is a cute picture book for kids with a powerful message! What child wouldn’t want to view the world through the eyes of love. Yet so many kids don’t. Part of the reason is cultural and media-driven. However, part of it is sometimes self-imposed. Some kids are just unhappy sadly. But Angela is nothing like this in the book.
Angela is so happy! She likes her room, home, family, school. She loves the parks that she goes to play in, she loves her friends, and everything the world has to offer. But also, she loves herself. When she looks in the mirror, she loves what she sees and is grateful for everything. Wow! What a powerful message! Especially for girls. Girls more than anyone hardly ever look in the mirror and like and appreciate what they see. They find fault with their physical body and they are self-critical. Kids as young as 5 and 6 years old are on a diet! Some early second and third graders are on a diet and others are anorexic. So, this book is much-needed for our kids to not only accept themselves but to love what they see.
There are so many wonderful messages contained in this book. There is the message of the importance for all of us to be appreciative of what we have and who we are. There is the message of the importance of liking ourselves from the inside out. And there is the message of seeing everything through the eyes of love and how important that is to enjoy our lives and to have peace. If children can learn these important lessons from an early age, they will become much happier as adults.
The illustrations are also colorful and bold. They are also expressive–I just love Angela’s little smiley face. She shows such true joy and peace. I just hope other kids will feel the same way after reading this book.
Thank you Alberto and Mony for such a great book! You have a gift for writing wonderful children’s books. I hope you will write more children’s books in the future.
