The story is about a very kind and charitable quilt maker. She sews beautiful quilts and then gives them away to the poor. Then she runs into a greedy kind who has so much yet he is still very unhappy. So, he things a quilt is what he is missing and what will finally help him to be happy. But the quilt maker refuses to give him one unless he gives everything he has accumulated to the poor. Does he part with everything just to receive her quilt?
This book has several important messages for kids:
1. Material possessions don’t make us happy.
2. Developing the spirit of giving will make us happy.
We are happier when we have less, demand less, and serve the poor.
What a great message for kids in this consumerist culture that we live in. Kids will learn a different message after reading this book. Maybe having everything is not all that important after all.
