Janice Green’s “The First Christmas” Book Review

In this picture book, Janice Green tells us about the birth of Jesus in a very meaningful and thought-provoking way. The story is divided into thirteen scenes. All of them draw the child and adult deeper into this familiar story. Each scene ends with a thought-provoking question that will help kids understand the birth of Jesus and the kind of world He was born into. Janice also discusses how important the wise men were to the story of Jesus’ birth. Even adults will learn a lot about the birth of Jesus.

The illustrator, Violet Vandor, also does a great job illustrating Janice’s story. Kids will enjoy the book and learn a lot about the true meaning of Christmas. This is especially important given our consumer-driven culture around Christmas. It is important for kids to realize that Christmas is much, much more than gifts under the Christmas tree. What a great message for kids.
