This is the second book in the Quincy Horse Series. It is a continuation of the story that started in Camille Matthews first book, Quincy Finds a New Home. In this book, Quincy and his friend Beau leave and go on a long road trip in a biggest horse trailer he has ever seen. Quincy is very uncertain about the trip. He seems angry because he was happy in his new home. And now he was just about to leave the comforts of his home.
Beau tells Quincy stories about the countryside all the way from Pennsylvania to New Mexico. Quincy finds the trip to be interesting. He even realizes that there are many other horses. In fact, there are all kinds of different horses, Standard-breds who hold their heads up high, Arabian horses in beautiful costumes, and Gypsy Vanners with long hair on their feet. So, Quincy feels less alone. But just as importantly, Quincy learns that he is an American Quarterhorse. This kind of horse can do anything. So, by the end of the trip, he feels so much more confident.
In addition to being a wonderfully illustrated book and a sweet story, it can be must as an educational tool in the classroom. First, the book includes a collage of different horse breeds that Quincy comes across on his trip. Second, the book includes a detailed map of the several thousand mile trip they took. This will give kids an invaluable geography lesson about the rugged terrain of the area. I commend Camille Matthews for being able to include so much valuable information within the small space of a children’s book. She is truly a gifted writer.
