Synopsis: This is a cute book about the trials and tribulations of babysitting. Bonnie Whiskers was a new babysitter for The Bears. She never babysat for them, and she didn’t know how difficult it was going to be to babysit SugarPaw. SugarPaw just didn’t like babysitters. He wanted his parents to stay home and to be with him. And he also hated the rules that his parents came up with for the babysitter. So when his parents left for the evening, Sugarpaw becomes very mischievous indeed. Can Bonnie survive? Will she be able to cope with SugarPaw? Is there any way that they could become friendly and actually like each other? I’ll have to leave it to the reader to find out.
Overall thoughts: I absolutely love this book! I think VS Grenier captures the perils of babysitting wonderfully by focusing on the theme that kids usually hate babysitters. They feel like they’re being abandoned by their parents. And they have no idea who their caretakers will be when their parents are gone. This is especially the case when a new babysitter is called in to baby sit the kids.
This book will open up the lines of communication between parents and their kids. It is so important for parents to listen to their kids’ pleas. However, it is equally important for kids to cooperate with their parents too so that they could get out once in a while and have some time to themselves.
